Elderly Care Course: How the Course Works

No prior experience is required. Our course is designed for anybody who wishes to provide care to elderly persons and will equip you with the foundational knowledge, practical skills and workplace experience needed to prepare you for a home-based elderly care career. 

The course duration is 13 weeks, including theory, skills training and workplace experience.  

Common modules include: elderly care basics, hygiene, nutrition, emergency First Aid and CPR, mobility assistance, communication, ethics, dementia care, and end-of-life support. 

The course costs R4500.00, which can be paid in 3 instalments of R1500.00. This amount includes the First Aid and CPR certificate, personalised uniform, workplace experience placement, graduation and refreshments during in-person training. 

Yes, our course includes a workplace training placement of 210 hours (20 workdays) for the student to gain hands-on practical experience in an elderly care facility. 

Our course is aimed at producing job-ready home-based caregivers. Successful completion of the course can also be a stepping stone toward a career as a caregiver in a frail care or old age facility.  

Yes, our course is a blend of remote learning for the theoretical modules and in-person training for the hands-on practical skills training and First Aid and CPR on Saturdays  

You need to be 18 years or older, with basic literacy and numeracy skills.  

A copy of an identity document will be required. You will also need to supply a physical address for training material to be dispatched to you. 

We look for students who are, caring and compassionate, patient, responsible, willing to learn, respectful towards elderly persons.
